Early Childhood Newsletter 2.5.2024

Dearest PCS Families,

It is hard to believe that the month of February is upon us!

Parking Lot Reminders:

Please continue to follow the rules and guidelines of the parking lot each morning and afternoon.  We have had several near misses with cars backing in and out of the lot.  Also, please remember to bring your patience each day.  The expectations that we have for the parking lot is for the safety of our students. You are your child’s role model and they are watching how you respond and speak to others.  Please be kind!

With the month of February comes the celebration of Black History month.  At PCS, we are committed to the work to continually bring not only this history to the forefront but also to ensure that all of our students see themselves within our curriculum and community.  Our work with equity, diversity, and inclusion is continual. With that, February's Black History Month does offer the opportunity to shine a light on some of the stories, voices, and accomplishments that belong in our classrooms and curriculum.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” ~ Martin Luther King.

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” ~ George Santayana.

Library News:

February 7th is World Read Aloud Day (WRAD)! How will you celebrate?

Kindergarten and 1st grade will celebrate all week long with surprise guest readers and/or a zoom with an author!

Natasha Yim and Andria Rosenbaum will zoom with 1st graders on Monday and Wednesday. Students will hear a read aloud and ask the authors questions! Please support these authors by visiting their websites and/or purchasing their book! They are volunteering their time for WRAD this week!

Did You Know we have a sister library in Lusaka Zambia?

Last year we were able to raise over $400 during our All For Books coin drive for the Impact One Library in Lusaka. This library serves 19 community schools and the surrounding neighborhoods. The library used the money to purchase books for the students they serve. As a thank you, they sent us 5 books written by Zambian authors for our library!

Our annual coin drive is coming up in March. Every cent raised goes toward purchasing books (for PCS classroom libraries and the Impact One library)!
