Early Childhood Newsletter 12.12.2022

Dear PCS Families,

It is hard to believe that we are a week and half away from winter break!  This will be our last newsletter until we see each other again in January. As we inch closer to Winter Break, we are reminded of all that we are thankful for.  We are incredibly thankful for our students and all of the joy that they bring us each and every day!  It is our hope that over this winter break you have time to connect with family and friends and find what brings you joy during this time of the year!

As you are thinking about what you might do over the break we have a wonderful article to share with you from PBS.  If you have some time to read through it, it will give you some ideas and tips on how to help support your kids and family during these next couple of weeks away from school.  As educators as well as parents, we know how pressure filled these weeks can be.  We hope some of the tips here can help you and your family have a wonderful break together.

Food Service News:

In the coming weeks and months, the school has authorized our food service provider, SFE, to begin substituting in some specialty items into the regular menus.  These items will sometimes be a dessert item or an entree.  The first offering will be this Friday, December 16, when a student receives a qualifying reimbursable lunch, they will receive a packet of Oreo Cookies as a dessert.  We are working with SFE to provide a variety of items, at no extra cost to the students, regardless of their meal status.  Any specialty items offered will meet dietary requirements and will be equally available to our vegetarian and non-vegetarian eaters.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Doyle.

Library News:

It's time for the Winter Break Reading Challenge! We will send home copies of the Reading Bingo card this week and next or you can find it attached to this email.  Your child should read at least 15 minutes for each challenge and return their card with their name, teacher's name, and a  parent or guardian signature by Friday January 6th. Students who participate will earn a bookmark and have their name entered into a drawing for free books, posters, and gift certificates for the Spring book fair! Happy Reading!
