Early Childhood Newsletter 4.22.2024

Dear PCS Families,

It is hard to believe that we are moving into the end of April! Once May arrives the end of the year kicks into high gear! However, before the month of May arrives we are excited to celebrate this week with our Multicultural Fair this coming Thursday. There has been so much planning and preparation that has gone into this day and we know it is going to be a great celebration of what makes PCS so special!

Library News:

The end of the year is coming fast which means it is time to return library books! Our students may borrow books until Monday April 29th. All library books are due back in the library by Monday, May 6th. Please be on the lookout for overdue notes coming home in the next few weeks and either return missing books or let Mrs. Ramsey know if they are lost! Thanks for your help!

Ms. Walsh’s Counselor’s Corner:

Teaching our kids when and how to apologize can feel tricky, because, for many of us, that intense vulnerability can still be difficult to navigate even into adulthood. However, having a human experience means, at some point (or for some of us at many points), we will each have to make a repair, whether it be big or small, with someone else. Society has taught us that an apology is the preferred way for this to happen and, likely, I’m sorry is what you were ingrained to say. Since PCS opened its doors, we’ve made it our daily practice to look at a possible fracture in a relationship as a need for repair that heals the wound deeper and broader than a simple sorry. The resource below aligns pretty well with how we guide students through this each day at school. If you have a minute to look below you’ll see a 3 step process in regards to offering an apology that is full of meaning as well as a 3 step process in how to accept someone’s attempt at a repair. In addition to this, information is included as to why making an effort to repair matters, when it’s necessary, forced apologies not being productive, and why not every offense requires an apology. As you read keep in mind, experts insist that it’s not the mistakes we make as parents that define us in our child’s eyes, rather it’s our attempts at repair that they remember. This alleviates some pressure, right? We don't always have to get it right the first time. Regardless of our age, circling back around for repair is where the magic happens!
