Early Childhood Newsletter 4.15.2024

Dear PCS Families,

We hope that you are ready to have a great week!  This past week we had some of our new in-coming Kindergarten students in the building for Kindergarten screening!  It is hard to believe that we are preparing for next year all ready, but we had so much fun meeting our newest PCS students! If you know any families still looking for a great school send them our way and we can schedule a tour. Earlier this morning the calendar for the 2024-2025 school year was shared via email blast.  Please make note as there are some changes from this year's calendar.

Ms. Walsh’s Counselor Corner:

Grounding Techniques

While we are all having a human experience here on Earth, we each have our own individual blueprint as to how we learn, perceive events, and relate to others. In addition to these unique aspects of ourselves, we also each have our own ways of anchoring ourselves to our core and our purpose. This is often referred to as being or feeling grounded/centered.

Some of us have figured out over time what grounds us as we begin to feel untethered in specific moments of our lives; this can be a person, place, book, song, smell, etc. For those of us that have not slowed down enough to realize what anchors us in times of distress or even just times of “itchiness,” I encourage you to find your most comfortable space, sit quietly, and reflect on what it is that helps you return to your core self each time you feel off-center.

Our understanding of this concept and having the language to go with it, is so important as we strive to help the next generation (our children) build a healthy resilience to all that comes their way in life. Knowing what anchors they can turn to now and practicing this technique regularly, will help them grow into teenagers who can better recognize when it is time to return to center as they begin to feel swept away from their core self by societal and/or academic pressures.

If you would like more information on grounding techniques please take a look at the resources below.

Spring Foodservice Parent Survey

Parents and Guardians:

I realize that we ask for your opinion often, and your responses are always welcomed and appreciated.  Please take a few minutes in the next day or two to answer this survey regarding your child(ren)'s eating habits at school and about the food service at Premier Charter School in general.  Thank you for your time, and if you have any specific questions or comments that aren't addressed in this survey, please contact Mr. Doyle (kdoyle@premiercharterschool.org)

2024-2025 Calendar:

Dear PCS Families,

We are excited to share our board approved school calendar for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.

We know that while there are many reasons why you choose PCS for your child(ren), our extremely talented teaching staff likely tops the list.  As a school, we are committed to supporting the ongoing development of our staff.  In keeping with that commitment, we have added 8 early release days to our 24-25 school calendar, one each month.

These monthly 2:00 release days for students provide a greater, continuous block of time (roughly 2+ hours as it will include after school time for teachers as well) for all teachers to plan and fully internalize units and daily lessons. They will also allow for opportunities for vertical talk/planning/learning to occur between grade levels to provide an even deeper understanding of standards and knowledge that is needed in order to best prepare students for the grade level above them.

We realize this is a change and thank you in advance for your support.  We are currently examining our Before and After Care (BAC) staffing plan to determine the role of BAC on early release days.  Look for more information about our BAC program coming soon.
