Honoring the Legacy of Kathryn Mitchell Pierce: A Champion for Literacy and Lifelong Learning

Premier Charter School is deeply honored to celebrate the life and legacy of our beloved board

member, Kathryn Mitchell Pierce, whose recent passing leaves a profound impact on our

community. Kathryn was more than a board member, she was a tireless advocate for literacy, a

passionate supporter of professional development, and a steadfast believer in the power of

adults to shape a child’s love for reading.

To honor her extraordinary commitment to our students, families, and teachers, we are

establishing two initiatives that reflect the heart of her work and the spirit of her leadership:

1. The Kathryn Mitchell Pierce Early Literacy Parent Resource Library

In recognition of Kathryn’s unwavering belief that families play a crucial role in nurturing young

readers, we will create a dedicated Parent Resource Library for families of our early learners.

This collection will offer high-quality books, literacy tools, and practical guides designed to

empower parents and guardians as partners in their child’s reading journey. Through this

resource, Kathryn’s passion for sharing knowledge and fostering early literacy will continue to

touch the lives of families for years to come.

2. The Annual KMP Literacy Learning Conference

Kathryn understood professional development as a powerful catalyst for change, believing that

when adults learn, children thrive. In her honor, PCS will host an annual literacy conference that

brings together families, teachers, and literacy leaders to learn, collaborate, and celebrate all

things reading. This event will serve as a joyful gathering of our community, reflecting Kathryn’s

belief in the strength of connected learning and the limitless potential that comes from investing

in people.

Together, these two initiatives stand as a living tribute to Kathryn’s passion, generosity, and

vision. They embody her belief that literacy opens doors, strengthens communities, and inspires

futures. Through this work, her legacy will continue to shape and uplift Premier Charter School

one reader, one family, and one learning moment at a time.
