Dearest PCS families,

Another great week at PCS! We continue to grow and learn as a school community. It is hard to believe that we are almost in October! Be on the lookout for Quarter 1 conferences news and sign up notes coming home soon as conferences are right around the corner on October 24 & 25!

Say Cheese!…

School pictures will be taken October 9, 2018 and this will be an out of uniform day for students. Picture order forms were sent home late last week. If you did not see it, please check your child’s backpack or contact your child’s teacher for an extra one. Order can be given the day of the pictures or ordered online as well.

Autism Speaks…

The St. Louis-Walk Now for Autism Speaks event will take place on Saturday, October 13, 2018 in Forest Park.  Students can participate in a dress-down day on Thursday, October 11, 2018 by donating $1 or more for Autism Speaks.  Please see the attached flyer on more information about the dress-down day on October 11 and how to join our PCS team for the walk on October 13.

A Note from SFE...

Is your child eligible to receive special dietary accommodations?

Such special dietary accommodations can be provided for students with celiac disease, diabetes, food allergies, PKU, dysphasia, and other physician prescribed dietary needs.

In order to provide these accommodations we will need documentation which includes:

· Special diet form

· Physician’s statement signed by a licensed physician

o   The disability

o   Explanation of why the disability restricts the child’s diet

o   The major life activity affected by the disability

o   Foods to be omitted and substituted

We are here to serve your child!  Should the need arise for your student to have a special diet we want to help provide those substitutions.

Message from Mrs. Gerwitz…

All PCS students were vision screened this week.  If your child did not pass the preliminary vision screen, he/she will be bringing home a consent form that will need to be signed by a parent to receive a free vision exam and free glasses courtesy of Kids Vision For Life and Crown Vision.  A Vision Van will be available at PCS on Tuesday, October 9 to provide a the free Optometry Exam and free glasses if needed.

BAC Update…

Students are only allowed 5 drop-ins for Before care and 5 drop-ins for Aftercare per year. The Before care drop-in fee is $5 and Aftercare drop-in fee is $15 per student. There will be a $25 Aftercare drop-in fee per child on half days; our next half day is October 25th. Also, families that plan on using the drop-in program need to call ahead or email Mr. Lydon at jlydon@premiercharterschool.org

Important Note Regarding Student Drop Off...

We have seen an uptick in students being dropped off early with no supervision. PLEASE NOTE!!! Doors to the buildings open at 8:10.  This is 15 minutes prior to our official start time of 8:25.  The only children who may be dropped off prior to 8:10 are those who are signed up for Before care.  If you come earlier than 8:10, you must stay with your child outside the front of their respective building to supervise them or wait with them in your car.  There is not enough supervision in or out of the buildings prior to 8:10 to allow students to enter any earlier.

Free/Reduced Meal Status 2018-2019 - Complete ASAP!

Free/Reduced meal forms are available in every buildings' front office.  These forms can also be completed and submitted within the Parent Portal.

Please be sure to complete your Free/Reduced meal application as we ask all families to have one on file.  Even if you do not believe you will qualify we ask all families to have one on file as this does affect meal pricing, BAC pricing, and has positive funding implications for PCS as a whole.

If you have any questions feel free to contact Ben Huebner at bhuebner@premiercharterschool.org

Makerspace Supply Drive...

Thank you to everyone who has donated items to our new makerspace!  We will update our donation wish list each week and post it here!  Please see the updated list below for items we are still looking to add to our makerspace!

*What is a makerspace? A makerspace is a place for students to imagine, explore, tinker, invent, design, and create.  3rd-5th graders will come to the makerspace once a week. During this special, they will learn how to use the new space and materials through a variety of design and building challenges.

After School Clubs...

More clubs coming soon! Be on the lookout for information on how to sign up for additional clubs coming home throughout the next month or so.
