Summer School Information...

Premier Charter School is excited to offer summer school again this year. It will run from Monday, June 4th through Friday, June 29th. The school day will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. Before Care and After Care will be offered for those students that need supervision prior to and following the end of the summer school day for a fee.

If you are interested in having your child participate this summer, please fill out the online registration form ( and submit by Friday, April 6. Please complete one form per family and include all of the information requested. Confirmation on your acceptance status should be sent home by mid April. Information regarding your child's summer school teacher and room number will arrive in May.

The summer school program will focus on remedial and enrichment activities, primarily targeting English-Language Arts, Math, and Physical Education. In addition to an enriching academic curriculum, we will be instilling our nationally acclaimed Character Education component into our daily routine.

Class size will be limited. We fill classes on a first come, first serve basis. Once a class is designated full, we will start a waiting list. If your child is waitlisted, we will let you know, so that you can plan accordingly. The goal is to make availability for all interested families.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email or call us at 645-9600. We look forward to potentially seeing your child this summer for another opportunity to academically achieve and have fun!

Sheree Elkins and Jen Bordenkircher

Dress code reminder...

As we get further into the school year, attention to dress code seems to lack. Therefore, I am sending a gentle reminder regarding dress code and the expectations for it. Attached you will find our dress code guidelines at PCS. Please ensure that your child is following those guidelines. For students who are very much out of dress code, a phone call will be made to the home to have a uniform brought up for them. (Visiting the nurse is really not an option as those extras are for students who need a change for various reasons occurring at school). One thing to note that we have been seeing more consistently... navy t-shirts without a collar and that are not PCS shirts are not dress code. Plain navy shirts must be collared. Leggings should also not be patterned and should be the base color of navy, tan, or white. For minor things, an email, note, or call will be made for a reminder. Thanks for helping out with this.

Re-enrollment happening now...

The last round of re-enrollment forms were sent home this week for any child who had still not completed the re-enrollment form. All students must return this form or re-enroll online in order for a spot to be reserved for the 2018-2019 school year. Please be cognizant of returning these forms in order to ensure your child's spot next year. Our lottery to fill any remaining spots in grades 1-8 will be held in April.

Our Kindergarten Lottery for the 2018-2019 School Year is open...

Spots are going fast!!! Do you have or do you know a child that will be in Kindergarten next school year? Applications can be filled out online at School Mint. This is a secure website where all that needs to be done to submit an application is fast and simple. It allows you to create a username and password and fill out all necessary information right there. There are also paper applications in each office as well. Please pass this information on to family, friends, and neighbors that you may be encouraging to apply to PCS!

From the Music Department...

The PCS Music Department is pleased to announce the Kindergarten and First Grade concert taking place on May 22, 2018. All Kindergarten and 1st grade students of PCS are encouraged to perform! More info to come. Save the date!

Join us for an evening of singing at PCS, on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. The PCS Inspire Chorus will be in concert at 6:00 pm at our very own Premier Charter School! All performers need to arrive no later than 5:30 pm. The show will take place in the Middle School Cafe. You will receive notice with special instructions closer to the day of the concert. Save the date and we will see you there!

From the School Nurse...

With warmer temperatures just around the corner and Spring and Summer Breaks on the horizon, it's important to remember that children of all ages need plenty of physical activity and outdoor play time. Physical activity and unstructured outdoor time have been shown to have not only physical benefits, but cognitive, social, emotional & psychological benefits as well.

A minimum of 60 minutes of physical exercise daily is recommended for children of all ages. Physical activity has be shown to lower rates childhood obesity which has both immediate and long term effects on physical health. Physical activity reduces the risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, & joint and orthopedic problems and promotes muscle and bone strength, balance, coordination, and flexibility.

In addition to physical benefits, physical activity reduces stress and promotes emotional & psychological well-being. Team sports and unstructured group playtime promote social development. Frequent physical activity has been shown to improve behavior and mood and decrease feelings of anxiety and depression.

Cognitive benefits of unstructured play time include the development of creativity, imagination, planning, and strategy--all traits that improve school performance. Aerobic activity has even been shown to promote neural connections in the brain.

Even the environment benefits from children who spend time outdoors. Children who do not experience time outdoors in natural environments early in life may develop an aversion or discomfort to natural spaces or regard nature as nothing more than a disposable resource.

So during Spring & Summer Break, take a break from technology. Go for a walk with your kids, shoot some hoops, get out a frisbee or jump rope, play a game of touch football, run down Art Hill and back up again, go skating, roller blading, or bike riding, take a trip to a park playground or a hike in the woods.

There's a lot of good that comes from fresh air & physical activity.
