PRINCIPAL'S POST

Dearest PCS Families,

We hope everyone had a great week and enjoyed the extra day on Labor Day to relax and have fun! Last week, I highlighted all the awesome things happening with technology at PCS. This week, I will continue on this theme but turn to the world of social media. This year our school's new initiative is to increase our digital footprint and to get the word out on all the positives that PCS has to offer! All of our teachers have begun using (or will very soon) Twitter and Instagram to highlight the incredible things they are working on with your children and to show the world how awesome your children are! So give them a follow... it really is amazing to see what goes on here on a daily basis!

Teachers will also be inviting you soon to follow their blog and download the "Homeroom" app. These too will help to connect families to their child's classroom and will be packed with pictures and info about the learning and fun that happens each day!

(If you are a parent that chose not to have your student's pictures made public, please do not worry. The teachers are very aware of this and will be diligent not to include their pictures.)

Lots of news from our Parent Community Group (PCG)...

PCG hosts family nights monthly at various restaurants around the city. It is a great way to meet other PCS families, enjoy a night off of cooking, and support PCS! Check out the attached flier for upcoming dates and come out and join in the fun!

Believe it or not, the Fall Festival is right around the corner! This is such a fun day for all. So bring out the family and enjoy a day of games, prizes, petting zoo, dunking booth, and much more. Bracelets are on sale now and can be purchased via the order form, during sale days (Sept. 21 & 22), or the day of the festival. The fun continues into the evening with Trunk N Treat. See the attached fliers and order forms for more details abut the entire day!

Sell, sell, sell! This is the last weekend of sales for our Tom Evans fundraiser. The fundraiser wraps up on Monday!

Help out those in need...
We are all aware of the devastation that has occurred recently in Houston and the surrounding areas due to Hurricane Harvey. As a school, we of course want to help out in any way we can. A couple of initiatives are happening in order to do this. One is our school supply drive. We have been partnered up with a classroom in Texas and all donations will be sent their way to help this classroom, teacher, and students get back on their feet.

Another chance to help will come Monday. PCS will have a NUT day (no uniform today). With a $1 donation, students may have an out of uniform/dress down day. All money raised will go to "Undies for Everyone" campaign.

Thanks for your support to both of these great causes!

Morning Walk into School... Reminder!!
Morning drop off is going well and the students have gotten into their routines nicely. Everyone is able to find their classrooms and know what to do upon arriving at their classroom door. Beginning this week, we asked that parents no longer walk the students to the classroom doors. If you walk your child to the building, please give your last hugs and kisses at the front door. This will help continue to build independence in the child and get the morning moving once they get to the classroom door. Thanks for your help in this!

Drop off and pick up procedures...REMINDERS!!
I am including the reminders once again for drop off and pick up. Please read through below and remember to always follow the rules of the road when on the streets!! We are out there to help but also need your help in following the procedures and bigger laws put in place. We ask that everyone follow the procedures to ensure the safety of all. Thanks.
• the parking lot is a one way only - heading north (towards the old hospital)
• there is no double parking in the street at any time or for any reason
• please do not drop students off in the middle of Sublette or the bike lane - cars need to be pulled over to the curb
• NEW THIS YEAR!!!! If dropping on Sublette - North (above) of the stop sign is for parking (leaving car); South (below) of the stop sign is for drop off only (no leaving car) - Dr. Schrimpf, Mr. Strickler, and Mrs. Leesman are all out there to assist in drop off and help find open spaces along the curb so please heed their directions!
• if dropping in parking lot, students must exit to the school side of the right lane - various staff members will be there to help students out of car; if in left lane students may exit to Sublette side and then walk up to middle cross walk to cross. There is NO crossing in middle of lanes for students or adults.
• in the parking lot, please pull as far up as possible to the middle crosswalk, filling in any open space to the car in front of you. Staff in lot will assist students to sidewalk and direct them to their building.
• there is no parking around the curve by the elementary building in the morning - two lane traffic begins there
• if you do want to park in the lot at drop off, the best and easiest spots are in the upper lot across from the Middle School Building, not the few open spots by the Kindergarten or Elementary Building
• please slow down while in parking lot and do not use your cell phone - we want to ensure the safety of all
• for arrival, doors open to the building at 8:10; any students arriving before then without an adult staying with them will be asked to go to before care
• for dismissal, doors to the building open at 3:25; please do not enter the building before then as we have classes returning to their rooms at 3:15/3:20 and need to keep the corridors clear. We will open doors following announcements for pick up.

Student Groups and Clubs at PCS...
Do you have a student who likes to run??? If so, we have a couple of groups for them!

"Let Me Run" for 4th-8th grade boys was highlighted a couple of weeks back. If interested, contact Ms. Mijatovic.

"Read, Right, Run" is for K-5th grade students and combines running/walking, reading, and good deeds. More information will be coming home very soon so be on the lookout! If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Rutan or Mrs. Pritchett.

REMINDERS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

PCG Update:
• The Tom Evans fundraiser started Monday, August 28 and will run until Monday, September 11. If your student did not receive a fundraising packet, please see your child's teacher or ask at the elementary front office.
• The next PCG Family Night is coming up soon. Head on out to City Park Grill on September 20!

Box Tops for Education: We will continue to collect Box Tops this year... so start collecting! Box tops can be given to your child's teacher or placed in the collection container in the Elementary office.
IC Parent Portal Page: Please contact your child's teacher if you need your log in information for the Parent Portal Page. Great way to stay up to date on grades, account balances, etc!
Amazon Smile Program: Our school has linked up with the Amazon Smile Program in which we get a percentage of an order placed that is "smile eligible" (it will say on the item by the price if it is or not). The easiest way to do this is to type "Amazon Smile" into the search bar on Amazon.com. It will then automatically link you to the Smile program. Then type in "St. Louis Charter School" (and look for St. Louis Charter Schools) to select us to be correctly linked with in order for the purchase percentage to go to us!
Lost & Found: We are hoping to keep this small this year! Please make sure to mark your child's lunch box, jackets, coats, sweatshirts, etc with their name so any lost items can be returned to them! We will be cleaning out lost and found on a monthly basis this year.

Lutheran South High School is hosting a Mini Pom Camp for all girls in grades 1-8. Camp will be held on September 23 with a performance at the September 28 varsity football game. More information as well as how to sign up included on attached flier
